STEPS :

  1. Open the Server Manager.
  2. Navigate to “Computer Management” > “Storage” > “Disk Management” from the Tools menu.
  3. In the Disk Management console, locate the volume where you wish to enable Shadow Copies, right-click on it, and select “Properties”.
  4. In the volume’s Properties window, switch to the “Shadow Copies” tab.
  5. Select the volume you want to enable Shadow Copies for and click “Enable”.
  6. If you want to create shadow copies immediately, click on “Create Now”.
  7. Optionally, click on “Settings” to customize the storage location, space allocation, and schedule according to your preferences.

REMEMBER:

  • By default, shadow copies are scheduled to be created at 7:00 a.m and noon.
  • The default storage area for shadow copies is on the same volume, occupying 10% of the available space.
  • You cannot choose specific shared folders or files for shadow copy creation; it’s done on a per-volume basis.
  • Each volume has a limit of 64 shadow copies. When this limit is reached, the oldest shadow copy is automatically deleted and cannot be recovered.
  • It’s essential to note that shadow copies are not a substitute for regular backups. Always maintain a proper backup strategy for data protection.
